What sets Magic Heidi apart from Sage Start or Sage 50?
Sage Start, Sage 50 Extra and Sage 200 Extra are classic SME accounting suites with double-entry bookkeeping, payroll modules and inventory. Magic Heidi is deliberately narrower: invoices, expenses, VAT and bank reconciliation for solo freelancers and Einzelfirmen, without the ERP weight. You save setup time, training and modules you would never touch. If you have employees with payslips, Sage / Infoniqa remains the better fit.
Sage was sold to Infoniqa — what does that mean for my data?
Sage sold Sage Start, Sage 50 Extra and Sage 200 Extra to Austrian Infoniqa in 2021. Existing customers have been migrated onto Infoniqa platforms over the past few years, with new UIs, updates and licence models. If you are tired of the ownership shuffle: Magic Heidi is Swiss-owned, Swiss-hosted in Zurich, and you can export everything as a ZIP any time. No lock-in, no overnight migration.
Can I migrate my Sage data to Magic Heidi?
Customers, invoices and open items can be exported from Sage / Infoniqa as CSV and imported into Magic Heidi. Expenses and receipts you upload as PDFs — the AI receipt scanner extracts the data automatically. For historical bookkeeping balances we recommend starting the current financial year fresh in Magic Heidi and keeping Sage / Infoniqa open as an archive in parallel. If you need help, write to Nathan directly — he walks through migrations personally.
My Treuhänder works with Sage — does Magic Heidi still fit?
Yes. Magic Heidi exports every booking, receipt and VAT figure as CSV, PDF or ZIP, in formats any Treuhänder can read. Many of our clients with a Treuhänder simply hand over a quarterly or yearly export package, and the Treuhänder posts it in their own Sage / BMD / Abacus. If your Treuhänder explicitly expects a Sage client file, ask them before you switch — most are flexible with clean exports.
I have employees and run payroll — does Magic Heidi work for me?
Honestly: no. Magic Heidi deliberately has no payroll, no withholding-tax modules and no HR features. If you need to issue payslips, file AHV or manage staff, Sage / Infoniqa, Bexio or Abacus are the right call. Magic Heidi is built for solo freelancers and Einzelfirmen with no employees. That focus is exactly why the app stays simple.
