Swiss QR-bills are now the only accepted payment slip
Since October 2022 the old orange and red payment slips (Einzahlungsschein / BVR) have been permanently discontinued. Every invoice in Switzerland now needs a QR-bill payment part if you want customers to pay easily via their banking app.

Why do Swiss invoices need a QR code?
Since 1 October 2022, all legacy payment slips (the orange Einzahlungsschein mit Referenz and the red Einzahlungsschein) have been discontinued. Swiss banks no longer process them. The Swiss QR-bill is now the only standardised payment slip format.
If your invoices don't include a QR-bill payment part, your clients must manually type your IBAN, reference number, and amount into their banking app — leading to typos, delayed payments, and unnecessary back-and-forth.

Frequently Asked Questions about QR-Bill Invoices
Is it really free?
Yes. The tool is free to use — no signup required. For ongoing invoicing with automatic QR-bills, VAT, and payment tracking, check out Magic Heidi.
Do I need a QR-IBAN or does a regular IBAN work?
A regular Swiss IBAN works for most QR-bills. You only need a QR-IBAN if you want to use a QR reference (QRR) for automated payment reconciliation. Ask your bank if you're unsure.
What currencies are supported?
Swiss QR-bills support CHF and EUR. If you invoice in other currencies you'll need an alternative payment method.
Can my customer still pay manually (without scanning)?
Yes. The QR-bill includes human-readable payment details so customers can type them in manually if they prefer.
Does this work with multi-page invoices?
Yes. The QR payment slip is appended as a new page at the end of your PDF, regardless of how many pages the original invoice has.
What changed in November 2025?
QR-bill v2.3 made structured addresses (Type S) mandatory. Unstructured/combined addresses (Type K) are being phased out, with a bank-side grace period until September 2026.
